Flower Power
Prompt: Eye Contact
As I was leaving the grocery, I saw a young girl waiting by the bus stop with her grandmother. She was dancing and twirling around the bike racks, her black braids bouncing as the beads in her hair clacked together.
I had bought a bouquet of purple flowers to liven up my dining table, and I smiled as I watched the girl free-form with no music but the magic in her mind. I plucked one out of the bouquet as I approached and offered it to her. “Would you like a flower?”
Breathless, the girl stopped, eyes twinkling. “Yes!” She said as she plucked it from my outreached hand and spun away to continue her joyful movement.
She held it for only a moment, then bounced over to her grandma, sitting at the bus stop. “I got you a flower!” She exclaimed proudly.
Her grandma looked at her suspiciously, but her face softened when she saw the source of the stem. “Well now see, I cain’t stay mad atcha for earlier when you done got me a flower. Thank you, baby.”
